Abstract: In the article the author considers the process of the origin of the concept of «slang» and the spreading of the slang vocabulary in the speech communication of representatives of specific social groups. Professional slang in the field of design and architecture by the example of the «Dictionary of Design Slang». has been particularly analyzed The analysis of the use of slang words and expressions in professional speech confirms the idea of strong positions of slang not only in colloquial speech, but also in oral form of professional communication of native speakers. The psychological aspects that contribute to the emergence, spread and active use of professional jargon in the speech; the role of the media in this process have been considered.
