Abstract: The emergence of new types of educational institutions: gymnasiums, lyceums, private schools, the introduction of in-depth study of individual subjects in ordinary schools, suggests that changes are taking place in the educational process, a massive reorganization is taking place. New methods of education are being developed, schools are adjusting curricula by adding new subjects, requirements and trends in society are changing. Thus, there is an acute discrepancy between the educational process and its material shell. This article discusses scientific and practical recommendations for the design and construction of modern general education school buildings, proposed by experts in the field of architecture, design, pedagogy and psychology, which are based on the application of various methods and principles of harmonization of the space-planning composition of premises and the appearance of buildings of general education institutions, as well as the need to rethink the material component of this process.
