Methodology of Checking Volumetric Properties of Asphalt Concrete Mixtures in Their Design by the Marshall Method
Abstract: Constantly increasing requirements for permissible axial loads, traffic intensity and traffic flow composition require more durable asphalt concrete mixtures with improved physical and mechanical characteristics from asphalt concrete. In this regard, new methods for selecting the composition of asphalt concrete mixtures according to the Marshall system and volumetric-functional design Superpave have appeared. These methods are only being tested in real conditions of operation of materials obtained on their basis. In this connection, it is necessary to search for ways to improve the systems of selection of asphalt concrete mixtures. The article considers such parameters as voids in mineral filler (VMF) and voids filled with bitumen binder for the purpose of determining errors in the selection of mixtures of various types with different nominal maximum sizes of grains of the mineral component of asphalt concrete mixtures.
Keywords: design of compositions, mixtures, voids, filler, binder.
