Abstract: The article discusses the issues of architectural and artistic value of buildings of inactive coal mines in Donbass. With the closure and gradual destruction of abandoned buildings in the surface complexes of Donbass coal mines, there is a threat of the loss of unique architectural and engineering solutions of significant historical and cultural value. The paper analyzes the latest research and publications in a given direction and defines the purpose of the study. The typology and specifics of coal mine buildings are presented and buildings with architectural and artistic value are identified. Using the example of coal mining enterprises in Donbass, the appearance of standard mine projects is demonstrated. The main specific features of the Donbass mine buildings are highlighted: architectural monumentality and functionality, engineering and construction solutions, decorative elements, cultural significance and further potential for architectural renovation.
