Ecological Trends in the Functional, Architectural and Artistic Development of Pedestrian Bridges
Abstract: The paper discusses the tasks of pedestrian bridges as multifunctional elements of the urban environment. It is noted that the main factor in choosing an approach to designing off-street pedestrian crossings is traditionally the goal of separating traffic and pedestrian flows, improving the accessibility of the environment, but at the same time the negative environmental factor is left aside. The necessity of transferring recreational and ecological functions of urban green zones, lost due to expansion of the roadway, creation of parking lots, and additional driveways to the above-ground level along with the pedestrian function is substantiated. The theoretical experience of research in the field of multifunctional bridges is analyzed in the work. The latest experience of construction and design of «green» bridges for the period from 2014 to 2024 is systematized. Modern types of green pedestrian above-ground objects, development trends of their additional functions, their features and tasks are identified. Methods of rational combination of ecological, recreational and communication functions in a single architectural and urban planning element are organized. Recommendations are given based on certain approaches to the design of «green» pedestrian bridges.
Keywords: multifunctional pedestrian bridges, ecological function of architectural structures, social and urban planning tasks, recreational areas, accessibility of pedestrian communications.
