Methodology for Calculating Large Gently Sloping Drywall Domes

Abstract: Separate examples of the installation of large-sized domes show that, on the one hand, preserving the schematic diagram of a typical solution, the size of the domes is increased by 1.5–1.8 times without confirming calculations, assuming potentially existing safety margins. Depending on the geometry of the dome and the number of places of possible suspension to the structures of the floor (coating) of buildings, one has to deviate from standard solutions of Knauf dome systems of the «Berlin» and «Munich» type. Methods for calculating drywall domes is based on a structural-phenomenological approach. The elastic constants Ex, Ey, vxy, vyx, Gxy are determined experimentally. Drywall, as a plane-reinforced material, appears as a continuous homogeneous orthotropic body obeying Hooke’s law. To move from a combined cross section with two-factor amplification to a homogeneous orthotropic equivalent body with elastic characteristics Е1, Е2, m12, m21 of standard samples obtained under uniaxial tension, it is necessary to select equivalent stiffness, which consists in determining the equivalent thickness with constant elastic constants. For practical engineering rozrahunkiv it is recommended to obmezhuvatsya to secure trips in transverse tension. The risk of entering into safety, as a matter of fact equivalent materials in material, i do not transfer between the three steps in transverse direction: In practice, we’ve completed the drawing and design of a large dimensional dome in the recreation area of the first main building of the Donbass National Academy of Architecture and Architecture.
