Abstract: An urgent problem for the city of Donetsk is the preservation of cultural heritage. Today, many historic buildings in the city’s structure are destroyed or in disrepair. One of these objects is the home of the founder of the metallurgical plant – John Hughes. Due to its historical and architectural value, the building can be classified as a cultural heritage site. The territory and the object itself have a number of architectural and urban planning problems and need to be addressed. Using modern methods, such as architectural integration, will create a new image of a historic building and include a historically significant area in the developing urban environment. The article deals with the historical formation of the former Hughes-Svitsyn house, determining its value and preservation, and developing the concept of architectural integration.

Keywords: Hughes house, architectural integration, historical development.
