Abstract: The article is devoted to the problem of creating conveniences of spatial orientation and movement for persons with severe impairments in the sensory sphere in the territories and buildings of the city. From the indicated points of view, the authors analyze the territories and buildings located within the boundaries of the historically established compact settlements of the blind, as well as the territories and buildings belonging to some educational and cultural-leisure institutions that allow a relatively high probability of their visits by people with severe sensory impairments. Some foreign examples are considered of taking into account the specific needs of these population groups when arranging city-wide and intra-yard territories and zones, as well as directly when forming the internal environment of buildings and structures of a certain functional purpose. Emphasis is placed on the importance of creating conditions that maximally facilitate the operation of intact human sensory analyzers, which bear the main burden of detecting and recognizing useful signals. Based on the results of the studies, a number of scientific and practical recommendations and proposals of an architectural, town planning and engineering nature are made, the implementation of which in real practice of design and construction will significantly improve the conditions of spatial orientation and movement of people with severe impairments in the sensory sphere in the territories and in city buildings.

Keywords: persons with severe disturbances in the sensory sphere, difficulties in spatial orientation and movement, psycho-physiological specificity of persons with sensory impairments, intact sensory analyzers and their functioning, requirements, compensation and correction, special architectural, urban and engineering techniques and tools, types of quarterly building space guidelines and principles of resettlement, social and economic efficiency.
